Nature And Adventure In San Juan

The Le Lo Lai Festival is a cultural program sponsored by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. It is a beautiful program that exhibits the culture that is distinctly Puerto Rico's through an artistic performance of dance and music.

The general area of Puerto Rico consists of mountain ranges that are rugged and perfect for a lot of activities. They stretch far out from east to west, cutting across the center of the island, through lush rain forest vegetation and natural karst formations. And with Puerto Rico only being 100 miles long and 35 miles wide, one can surely cover all areas and maximize their vacation in the island. Enjoy the lush flora and fauna as you go around the regions of and around San Juan, Puerto Rico, either by hiking, rock climbing, spelunking, kayaking, or even camping on uninhabited areas near and off the coast to nearby islands.

One of the great places to hike in Puerto Rico is the El Yunque Rainforest, which is one of the most visited places in all of Puerto Rico. This natural site was named after an Indian spirit named Yuquiyu, and is the only rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. There is an abundance of trees found in the El Yunque Rainforest, totaling to about 240 different species. Another excellent site for hiking is the Guanica Dry Forest Reserve, which is over 10,000 acres of dry land. These lands are home to some of the most uncommon animals and plants, with 48 already endangered and 16 that are native only to the island of Puerto Rico. Visitors of Puerto Rico can also enjoy canoeing along the streams that line the tropical jungles or head out to the great open and paddle out into the ocean. Caving is also one of the reasons why people often come to Puerto Rico. With Puerto Rico's beautiful and natural karst formations around canyons and mountain regions, caving really has become one of the premiere nature activities that are available in the island. The rainfall has contributed to Puerto Rico's bedrocks to erode, and now these karst formations have developed narrow canyons and even sinkholes and underground streams and caverns that spell ultimate adventure to the avid caving enthusiast.

A lot of activities can surely be enjoyed in the surrounding areas of San Juan, Puerto Rico. And aside from them being good physical exercise that is perfect for one's wellbeing, these activities also allow you to open your mind and learn more about the unique island of Puerto Rico.
