San Juan’s main characteristic is its easy access to great bodies of water, thus making it the largest and most important seaport in Puerto Rico. There is a plethora of spectacular beaches on the long stretches of shoreline around San Juan. Most of the beaches of San Juan are open to public. Such public bathing beaches are called balnearios. Balnearious offer inexpensive access to parking, facilities such as lockers and showers.

The Playa Candado is a majestic beach located east of Old San Juan and west of Ocean Park. It features endless beach overshadowed by numerous hotel structures and apartments. To travel to Palya Candado, one has the option to take either the roads from the Avenida Ashford, which include Calle Cervantes and Calle Candina.

Another popular beach in San Juan is the Playa de Ocean Park. Who would ever imagine that amongst the wide and populated residential neighborhood in the east of Condado is a one mile long stretch of golden sand? The Ocean Park is often populated by young individuals and crowds. Access to the beach has been quite limited recently; nonetheless visitors can still reach the area through a section called El Ultimo Trolley. The Playa De Ocean is the perfect beach to play volleyball, paddleball and other outdoor games. Moreover, the eastern most part of the Ocean Park is conducive for windsurfing.

The Balneario de Carolina is carefully surrounded with palms and almond trees. It also provides for various amenities like lifeguards, restrooms, changing facilities, picnic tables and barbeque grills. The beach is opened daily from 8 am to 6 pm. The parking costs $2 each.
